Why we built MediGuide
The Canadian healthcare system is one of the best in the world — but navigating it can be deeply confusing. Millions of Canadians receive lab results they don't understand, experience symptoms they can't explain, or get discharged from the ER without a clear picture of what happened or what to do next. The median wait from a GP referral to the start of treatment is 28.6 weeks. A lot can go wrong — or go unaddressed — in that time.
MediGuide was created to bridge that information gap. Not to replace doctors — they are irreplaceable — but to make sure that every Canadian, regardless of their background, education, or location, can show up to their appointment better informed, ask the right questions, and understand the answers they receive.
We believe that understanding your own health is a right, not a privilege.
Meet the founder

Rishi Mohan
Founder & Editor
Pharmacy & medical degree
Rishi Mohan is the founder of MediGuide. With a background in pharmacy and a medical degree, he spent years close to the front lines of healthcare — and kept seeing the same thing happen. People would leave an appointment, or the pharmacy counter, unsure of what their diagnosis actually meant, which specialist they were supposed to see, or whether their symptoms were something to worry about.
He watched patients wait months for a referral with no clear sense of what to expect in the meantime, and newcomers struggle to navigate a system no one had ever explained to them. The information they needed usually existed — but it was buried in medical jargon, scattered across government websites, or locked behind a months-long wait just to ask a question.
Rishi built MediGuide to close that gap: a free, plain-language tool that helps any Canadian understand their symptoms, decode their medical documents, and work out the right next step — so they can walk into their appointment informed and walk out with clarity. MediGuide doesn't replace your doctor or pharmacist. It's designed to make the limited time you get with them count for more.
Our mission
To give every Canadian — regardless of health literacy, income, or location — access to clear, compassionate, and accurate health guidance. We want to reduce the anxiety that comes from not understanding your health, and help people make informed decisions about their care.
MediGuide is, and will always be, completely free. No subscription, no paywall, no credit card required.
What MediGuide can — and cannot — do
We believe in being completely honest about what AI health tools can and cannot do. Here is a clear breakdown:
- Explain possible conditions based on your symptoms in plain English
- Decode lab results, doctor's notes, and specialist reports
- Recommend which type of specialist to see and why
- Give you a sense of urgency — routine, soon, or urgent
- Help you prepare questions for your doctor's appointment
- Find specialist clinics near you across Canada
- Diagnose any medical condition
- Prescribe or recommend specific medications
- Replace a consultation with a licensed physician
- Access your provincial health records
- Provide emergency medical advice — call 911 for emergencies
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. Do not use MediGuide as a substitute for emergency care.
How it works
MediGuide uses large language AI models provided by OpenAI to analyse symptom descriptions and medical documents. Our system returns structured, plain-English health information tailored to the Canadian healthcare context. Here is what happens behind the scenes:
Describe or upload
Type your symptoms in plain English, or upload a medical document like a lab result or doctor's note. No medical knowledge required.
AI analysis
Our system — powered by OpenAI's large language models — analyses your input against a knowledge base of Canadian clinical guidelines and common conditions.
Plain-English results
You receive a structured breakdown: possible conditions with likelihood levels, an urgency rating, and a recommended specialist type for the Canadian healthcare system.
Find care near you
Use your GPS or enter your city to find specialist clinics accepting patients near you. Filter by specialty and book directly.
All analyses include a clear disclaimer reminding you that the information provided is not a medical diagnosis and should not replace consultation with a licensed Canadian physician.

Compassionate
Health concerns are stressful. We communicate in plain English, avoid medical jargon, and make sure you feel informed and supported.
Always Improving

AI & technology
MediGuide is powered by OpenAI's large language models (GPT-4 series). These models are trained on vast amounts of medical literature and general knowledge, and are capable of understanding natural language descriptions of symptoms and interpreting common medical document formats.
We prompt these models with Canadian-specific context — including provincial healthcare structures, Canadian clinical guidelines, typical specialist referral pathways, and common Canadian lab reference ranges — to make responses relevant to life in Canada.
AI is not infallible. Language models can sometimes generate plausible-sounding but incorrect information. This is why every MediGuide result includes a medical disclaimer, and why we always encourage you to share your results with a licensed physician rather than acting on them independently.
Important: MediGuide is a health information tool, not a medical device. It is not regulated by Health Canada as a medical device. The information it provides is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
